Description

Occupational therapy supports children’s participation, independence, and development in preschool environments. Occupational therapists work with educators and leaders to embed play-based strategies into daily routines, supporting fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and functional skills for learning.

Support may include group sessions, in-class modelling, and targeted strategies to improve engagement, coordination, attention, and participation. Occupational therapists also focus on educator capacity building through coaching, resources, and upskilling to support diverse developmental needs.

Leadership support helps guide inclusive practices across the whole setting, ensuring strategies are consistent and sustainable. Parent education is also provided, offering practical ways to support children’s development at home.

Through a collaborative approach, occupational therapy helps create environments where all children can build skills, access learning, and participate confidently with their peers.

  • Improved AEDC outcomes, particularly in physical health, wellbeing, and social competence
  • Stronger fine and gross motor skills, independence, and self-regulation.
  • Increased educator confidence using sensory and motor strategies in daily routines.
  • Greater family confidence supporting development and independence at home
