Description
Our approach works alongside educators within play, routines, and shared activities. Our support is integrated into one cohesive model, supporting communication, regulation, sensory processing, learning, and participation together within everyday interactions.
Educators are supported through in-room coaching, modelling, and reflective discussion. This includes practical strategies such as supporting multimodal communication (including AAC and aided language modelling), building understanding of neurodiversity and supporting neurodivergent children to thrive, adapting environments to support regulation and sensory needs, and creating opportunities for children to communicate, make choices, express preferences, and advocate for their needs within daily routines.
Our approach is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming and human rights-based practice. We understand communication, behaviour, and regulation as meaningful and shaped by the environment, and support educators to respond in ways that reduce pressure and increase access to communication, participation, and connection.
Families are included through collaboration to support consistency across home and preschool environments.
Expected outcomes for this support are:
- Improved educator capability to support diverse communication, including multimodal communication and AAC
- Increased understanding of neurodiversity and confidence supporting neurodivergent children
- Improved ability to recognise and respond to regulation needs
- Increased capacity to create inclusive environments supporting participation, social connection, and engagement in play and learning
How this is delivered
Support is typically delivered over a term-based block (approximately 5-8 weeks), with sessions occurring weekly or fortnightly. Each visit is 60-90 minutes and includes a mix of observation, in-the-moment coaching, small group support, and brief reflective discussion.
Delivered by a speech pathologist, the focus is on working with educators within their existing context. Coaching occurs alongside real interactions, through modelling, supported practice, and shared problem-solving, allowing strategies to be immediately relevant and embedded into everyday routines.
Educators are supported between visits to trial and refine strategies, with practical resources provided to support consistency across the team. Where appropriate, families are included to support shared understanding across home and preschool environments.
The approach focuses on building confidence and capability within teams, so communication, regulation, and participation support are embedded within everyday practice and sustained beyond direct support.
