Description

This support will collaborate with you to provide education and services in areas of communication and general knowledge, language and cognitive skills and social competence. Speech pathologists work with you in culturally safe, neuro-affirming and responsive ways to provide language, communication and social support with:
  • structured evidence-based materials
  • book sharing
  • language modelling and recasting
  • play activities
  • personal recounts
  • modelling and integration of augmentative and alternative communication (aac) systems
  • speech sound production, modelling and recasting
  • early literacy development
  • social thinking.
Support in the above areas results in increased skills and decreased vulnerabilities in the areas of:
  • vocabulary
  • communication function
  • verbal interaction and turn taking skills, social awareness
  • syntactical structures (improved sentence accuracy and meaning)
  • phonological and phonemic awareness.
Expected outcomes for this support are:
  • early childhood staff will be upskilled with knowledge and resources to support children’s speech, language learning, literacy, play and social competence.
  • families will have increased knowledge and capacity to best support their children’s speech, language learning, literacy, play and social competence.
  • recipients of support will be more independent in supporting children’s language and communication needs in an ongoing capacity.
  • specific outcomes will be dependent on choice of services requested from sites.

How this is delivered

This support is available in-person and online as needed to early childhood staff, groups of children and families. Speech pathologist and allied health assistants are available to provide the following services:
  • planning and preparation
  • in-person meeting
  • group intervention supports
  • preparation of resources
  • coaching for staff and families
  • professional development.

Cost

Speech pathologists are available at a rate of $200 per hour. allied health assistants are available for tier 2 support (with planning oversight by speech pathologist) at a rate of $100 per hour. If travel or accommodation is required, additional charges will apply.
