Description

Two Way Street offers a range of services to preschools to support the development of children’s communication skills. Using a collaborative approach, services may include:
  • in-room participation
  • sharing strategies with staff
  • troubleshooting challenges
  • modelling the use of various communication systems
  • universal design for communication considerations for all children to build their expressive communication as well as comprehension of spoken language.
The aim is to provide practical advice and tools that enhances communication outcomes for children. Two Way Street acts as a teacher, ally, and ongoing support for life-long learning in communication including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This enables all students to understand others and to be understood. We have expertise in those who find spoken language difficult to express or understand. Preschool services include:
  • classroom participation and support
  • educator mentoring, training, and guidance
  • centre-wide consultation
  • creation of symbolic communication resources for use in the early childhood setting.
Expected outcomes for this support are:
  • improved understanding of diverse communication for families and educators
  • improved ability to implement strategies to support communication and social skill development – expression and comprehension – for families and educators
  • improved understanding of emotional development in early childhood and its interplay with language and communication, including how visual communication strategies can enhance emotional development and regulation
  • improved ability to support diverse needs through inclusive practices and a language-rich environment where every child can have a voice

How this is delivered

This support is available in-person or hybrid as needed.

Cost

This support is available at a rate of $250 per hour for consultation. Whole day rate is $1500 plus travel time. Consultation and workshop rates are available for longer sessions: Rates as at May, 2025: half-day workshop: $1850, 2-hour workshop: $1250. If travel is required, this will be charged at a rate of $210 per hour.
