Description

The Developing Oral Language program provides evidence-based, practical strategies for supporting the development of young children’s receptive and expressive language skills. This program is designed to help you upskill in creating language rich interactions and experiences, while also offering guidance on engaging families to embed daily literacy practices at home. Content covered includes:
  • oral language development in the early years including developmental milestones
  • strategies for developing receptive and expressive language skills
  • guidance on using picture books to build vocabulary, phonological awareness, and narrative retelling skills.
The program includes 1 Big Book for your service, as well as a toolkit containing 3 finger puppets and 3 picture books (including Little Book Press titles) to enhance your learning and implementation. These resources are seamlessly integrated into the workshop delivery, equipping you with tools to incorporate into your planning and curriculum, while also offering valuable assets to share with families after the session. Expected outcomes for this program are:
  • develop an understanding of the neuroscience behind oral language development and how oral language emerges in young children
  • gain strategies for using picture books to scaffold children’s emerging phonological awareness, vocabulary, and narrative retelling
  • gain practical tips for strengthening partnerships with families to promote oral language and literacy development in the home environment.
