Supporting Aboriginal families in South Australia
All Aboriginal children in South Australia have the right to grow up strong in Culture. For thousands of years, Aboriginal families and Communities have shared the responsibility to care for and raise children strong, safe and connected to Culture. To honour this, education and care services must provide Culturally responsive learning environments that include a grounding in Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.
We partner with Aboriginal families who are the decision makers in their child’s learning journey, and we recognise families, Elders and Communities as First Teachers for Aboriginal children. We honour their shared responsibility for the care and education of children.
This page lists a range of resources, services and information to support all Aboriginal families and children to thrive.
For children and families
The Office for Early Childhood Development works in partnership with Aboriginal leadership, Community and the early childhood sector to empower Aboriginal children to grow up strong in Culture, identity and Community across South Australia.
Central to this work is the Aboriginal Early Childhood Strategy, which strengthens how we engage Aboriginal children, families and Communities in early childhood education and services.
