Description
This program aligns to the Knowing level of the Aboriginal Cultural Safety Training Content Framework. It explores key concepts such as appropriate terminology, historical impacts (pre and post colonisation), intergenerational impacts and engaging with Aboriginal peoples. This training will create conversation for positive change and outcomes regarding Aboriginal engagement, participation and insight into Aboriginal culture. Participants will be provided with a better understanding of engagement strategies and pathways. KWY will cover the history of modern Australia, offer a range of communication techniques and highlight ways to increase engagement with the community. You will be empowered with skills and knowledge to better recognise and understand areas in Aboriginal culture that may influence participation rates and outcomes for Aboriginal families. As a participant this training will help you:
- increase your own cultural understanding
- discuss strategies for the implementation of your new learnings
- support embedding your learnings into service delivery
- improve relationships between Aboriginal staff and volunteers and community and
- raise awareness and gain a greater understanding of organisational cultural competency.

Expected outcomes for this program are:
- increased awareness of your own cultural understandings

- confidence to implement your new learnings.
How this is delivered
This training is delivered over 2-3 hours, in small groups at community place-based centres. Sessions can be delivered online for some regional sites, please contact KWY to arrange.
Cost
Free to partnered services. There are no additional costs for transport and accommodation to regional and remote locations if in-person delivery is the preference.
