Description
Anglicare SA Speech Pathology support is embedded within the preschool program to strengthen children’s social communication and language development through play-based, everyday learning. Delivered by AnglicareSA, including the team behind the Daphne Street Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre (ASELCC), this service is informed by the SCERTS model, supporting a holistic, strengths-based approach to communication and participation in early childhood settings. Working alongside educators, speech pathologists support environments where all children can communicate and engage using multimodal communication approaches, including gestures, visuals, key word signing, and other supportive systems that promote shared understanding and social connection. The focus is on building communication-rich environments and strengthening educator practice so that social communication learning is embedded across daily routines, interactions and play. Support includes partnering with educators to plan and implement SCERTS-informed strategies, modelling responsive interaction techniques, supporting early identification of children who may benefit from additional communication support, facilitating small group social communication experiences, and working with families to share practical strategies for use at home.
- Improved AEDC outcomes across social, emotional, language and communication domains.
- Increased participation and engagement in play and learning with peers and educators.
- Increased educator confidence using SCERTS-informed and multimodal communication strategies in daily routines.
- Greater family confidence in supporting communication at home, with stronger connections between educators, speech pathologists, families and community participation
