Communicate Better Speech Pathology based in the Limestone Coast (Mount Gambier) delivers play-based group programs that build communication, social connection, and school-readiness skills for preschool children. Our approach is grounded in connection-based learning, where relationships, co-regulation, and shared joy support meaningful communication growth. Children learn alongside peers in inclusive environments that honour autonomy, sensory needs and individual strengths.  
Programs target early communication, language development, speech sounds, AAC, social interaction, phonological awareness, and classroom-ready communication skills. Learning is supported through predictable routines, supported peer interaction, and meaningful play that builds confidence and engagement.

A core feature of our model is working alongside educators. Together, educators and speech pathologists develop shared communication goals and consistent strategies across routines, play, and learning.

Our service includes Tier 1 universal supports and targeted small-group intervention where needed. Educators are supported through modelling, coaching, data-informed check-ins, and responsive adjustments. This collaborative, goal-led approach strengthens inclusive practice and creates communication-rich environments where every child can participate, connect, and thrive.

Expected outcome are:

• Educators understand key concepts of speech, language and communication.
• Educators confidently embed communication-supporting strategies across daily routines, play, and group learning.
• Educators use strengths-based, inclusive practices to support diverse learners, including children with sensory, communication, or neurodivergent needs.

The service is delivered through a flexible, collaborative model that adapts to the needs of the ECEC setting. A Speech Pathologist provides sessions within the preschool environment, with frequency and duration determined using clinical reasoning, evidence -based guidance, and ongoing consultation with educators. Sessions typically range from 30-60 minutes and may occur weekly, fortnightly, or in short-term intensive blocks, depending on support needs.

Early involvement is often more frequent to allow for modelling, coaching, and establishing routines, with support gradually reducing as educators become confident in delivering strategies themselves. Ongoing implementation support is provided through regular check-ins, collaborative planning, modelling within routines, and simple data collection to monitor progress and adjust goals. This approach ensures that communication support is embedded across the day and sustained by educators.

The program is delivered in 1 hour fortnightly sessions, face -to-face or online. Speech pathologists work with educators to set shared goals, and embed communication strategies. Sessions include modelling in  play, routines, and peer interactions, with educators supported through coaching, data-informed check-ins, and responsive adjustments to create communication ¬rich environments and progress.
