This educator-focused program builds the knowledge, confidence and practical capability of early childhood educators to understand and support sensory processing differences in neurodivergent children. Rather than providing direct intervention with children, the program strengthens educator practice and promotes responsive, inclusive learning environments.

Educators develop an understanding of the sensory systems and how sensory processing differences influence children’s engagement, participation, learning, behaviour and emotional regulation. They learn to recognise sensory preferences and challenges, and consider how environments, routines and interactions affect children’s experiences.

Through reflective discussion, case studies and analysis of their own settings, participants identify sensory barriers and explore practical adjustments to routines, transitions, play spaces, group experiences and educator interactions. The program introduces strengths-based, evidence-informed strategies that can be embedded into everyday practice to support regulation, engagement, independence and inclusion. Educators also consider collaboration with families and allied professionals to promote consistent supports across environments.

The program includes the following components:

• Pre-consultation session and observation (1 hour): An initial consultation and observation of the learning environment is undertaken to understand current practices, identify potential sensory influences on children’s engagement and behaviour, and gather information to inform a contextualised case study discussion during the workshops.
• Workshop 1 (1.5 hours): The first workshop introduces key concepts related to sensory processing and regulation, supporting educators to understand how sensory experiences influence children’s behaviour, engagement and emotional responses within the learning environment.
• Workshop 2 (1.5 hours): The second workshop focuses on practical strategies to support sensory regulation, including environmental adjustments, proactive supports and approaches that assist children to remain engaged and regulated during daily routines and transitions.
• Follow-up implementation visit (1 hour): A follow-up session is conducted to review the implementation of strategies, provide feedback and tailored advice.

The cost is $1290. If travel is required, this will be charged based on location.
