Description
Making Meaningful Music is an evidence-informed professional learning program designed to help educators working with children in the preschool years use music intentionally to support learning, development and school readiness.
The program strengthens educator confidence and capability to embed meaningful music experiences within play-based preschool programs, with a particular focus on language development, communication, engagement and school readiness.
The program begins with a live 2-hour professional learning masterclass, delivered online or in-person, followed by a 6-week guided implementation phase. Educators receive practical strategies, weekly video lessons, implementation prompts and ongoing support to help translate professional learning into everyday practice.
Music experiences explored throughout the program include singing, rhythm, movement, listening and instrument play. No prior musical experience is required.
Expected outcomes for this program are:
- Increased educator confidence to use music intentionally within everyday practice.
- Improved understanding of language and communication development in early childhood.
- Improved ability to implement practical strategies that support language development, early literacy and school readiness.
- Increased use of meaningful music experiences that strengthen children's participation, communication and engagement.
How this is delivered
Making Meaningful Music is delivered over approximately 6 weeks and is designed to support educators to translate professional learning into everyday practice.
The program begins with a live 2-hour professional learning masterclass, delivered online or in-person. The masterclass introduces the evidence base for music in the early years and provides practical strategies educators can use immediately to support language development, communication, engagement and school readiness.
Following the masterclass, educators participate in a 6-week guided implementation phase. During this time, they receive weekly video lessons, implementation prompts and practical resources aligned with the Five Branches Framework for Music in the Early Years (Beat, Singing, Instruments, Movement and Listening).
A dedicated online support forum provides opportunities for questions, reflection and sharing of practice throughout the implementation period.
The program concludes with a live 1-hour consolidation session, where educators reflect on their learning, celebrate successes and plan for ongoing implementation within their service.
No prior musical experience is required. In-person delivery is available, with travel and accommodation costs applying where relevant.
