Description
Marte Meo (on one’s own strength) is an evidence-based method using interactive video analysis for professional development of educations to activate the social and emotional learning of children, ultimately to support secure attachment for children to thrive developmentally as based on John Bowlby’s attachment theory. The use of everyday interaction moments between educators and children, as well as between children and children, offer moments for purposeful, attuned connection to support children’s development across AEDC domains (emotional maturity, social competence, language and communication skills). Early childhood agencies across the globe, including the SA Government both within health and education, have supported and integrated the use of Marte Meo as an evidence-based and strengths based method to support the development of all children, particularly those who show vulnerabilities.
Expected outcomes for Educators and Early Childhood Staff:
- Increased knowledge of using the Marte Meo method to support play and communication skills for the children in their care.
- To be able to develop cross centre consistency in using particular key principles of the Marte Meo method.
- Increased awareness of where to target particular Marte Meo key principles to children identified as having developmental struggles/vulnerabilities across the AEDC domains.
How this is delivered

This can be flexible as needed and adapted to meet the needs of the centre.
Ongoing implementation support can be offered on top of these sessions with it being encouraged to provide a follow-up 2-3 months after the training to review how the approach is being embedded into daily interactions at the site.
