Description
The Hanen More Than Words® program is an evidence based, family centred intervention designed specifically for parents of autistic children or children with social communication difficulties. Its primary goal is to empower parents to become their child’s most effective communication partners by using natural, everyday interactions to build social communication, play, and imitation skills.
The program teaches parents how to:
- understand their child’s interests, communication style, and sensory preferences
- encourage longer and more meaningful interactions during daily routines
- support their child’s comprehension, communication attempts, play, and social engagement and
- create enjoyable back and forth interactions that promote learning in real life contexts.
Parents participate in group training sessions and individual video feedback coaching with a CD4K Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist, ensuring personalised guidance tailored to their child’s communication goals.

Expected outcomes:
- enhanced child communication and participation: improved initiation, response, joint attention and turn-taking
- reduced frustration and improved interactions: greater engagement, and more meaningful back-and-forth interactions
- strengthened parent capability: increased responsiveness, confidence and ability to create communication opportunities and
- consistent, collaborative support: improved interaction quality, with parents and educators using aligned strategies.
