Description
Hanen Learning Language and Loving It (LLLI) is an evidence‐based professional learning program that builds educators’ skills in supporting children’s communication, social interaction and early literacy through responsive, high‐quality engagement. Educators learn to embed language‐rich, play‐based practices across the day so every child can communicate, connect and participate meaningfully. LLLI teaches educators to observe children’s communication, follow their lead and use intentional interaction strategies that extend language, support turn‐taking and deepen shared engagement. These practices align with EYLF Principles and Practices, including secure relationships, intentional teaching, responsiveness to children and learning through play, and support key EYLF Outcomes 1, 3 and 5.
The program is delivered through interactive workshops, guided practice and individualised video‐based coaching. Educators are filmed during real interactions, and clips are used to reflect on strengths and refine strategies, ensuring learning transfers directly into daily practice. LLLI supports inclusive practice and is effective for children with typical development, language delays, neurodiversity or additional needs. Educators finish with a robust toolkit of responsive strategies that enrich conversations, strengthen relationships and create communication‐rich environments.
Expected outcomes:
Improved educator ability to use responsive, language‐building interaction strategies aligned with EYLF Practices.
Enhanced capacity to create language‐rich, play‐based environments supporting EYLF Outcomes 1, 3 and 5.
Improved confidence supporting children’s social communication and engagement.
Strengthened inclusive practice to meet diverse communication needs.
How this is delivered
The Learning Language and Loving It (LLLI) program is delivered through a structured series of educator workshops and individual coaching. It typically includes 6–8 group sessions (2 hours each) delivered over several weeks, where educators learn key responsive interaction strategies using video examples, discussion and guided practice. Between sessions, educators apply strategies in their daily routines. Each participant also receives 2–4 one‐on‐one video‐based coaching sessions. Educators are filmed during natural interactions with children, and a Hanen‐trained facilitator reviews these clips to refine techniques and set personalised goals. The program can be delivered in‐person, online, or as a blended model, and can be offered to whole teams or small educator groups. Participants receive a comprehensive workbook and access to downloadable resources to support ongoing implementation. This delivery model ensures educators confidently embed language‐rich, play‐based practices aligned with the EYLF.
Cost
The program is charged at $230 per hour (ex GST). No travel fees apply within 15 km of Mount Gambier.
