Description

Level of Tolerance is a structured, group-based educator capacity-building program with a parent education component designed to strengthen children’s regulation, safety and participation in early childhood settings.

The program is grounded in developmental neuroscience, attachment-informed practice, and contemporary understandings of nervous system regulation. It aligns with My Therapy House’s broader approach to early childhood: safety, regulation and relational support are understood as foundations for communication, learning and wellbeing.

Level of Tolerance supports educators and parents to:

  • understanding the nervous system states as drivers of behaviour
  • recognise when a child is operating in burnout, recovery, stability or expansion
  • reduce environmental and relational demands when tolerance is low
  • use low-demand, collaborative language
  • adjust environments before increasing expectations and
  • gradually widen participation in sustainable ways.

The program includes structured tolerance questionnaires, educator professional learning sessions, small-group observation and analysis sessions with children, parent workshops, and guided implementation planning with educators and site leadership.

Expected outcomes for ths program:

For children:

  • Improved ability to understand their own emotions.

For families:

  • Improved understanding of emotional development in early childhood.

For educators:

  • Improved understanding of emotional development in early childhood.
  • Improved ability to model and teach emotional regulation strategies.

How this is delivered

Level of Tolerance is delivered as a structured, sequenced program combining educator professional learning, structured tolerance questionnaires, parent education and guided implementation support. The program is facilitated by qualified My Therapy House clinicians, including Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, working within preschool settings.

The program is delivered across 6-8 weeks, allowing time for implementation between sessions. The pacing may be adapted in consultation with the host ECEC to align with funding and service needs.

The program includes:

  • 2 x 1.5 hour structured educator professional learning sessions introducing the four-stage tolerance framework and low-demand language principles
  • completion and review of structured tolerance questionnaires by educators or parents
  • 2 x 2 hour small group sessions with up to 4 children and 2 educators (30 mins contact + 90 mins analysis with educators)
  • 1 x 1.5 hour parent workshop delivered onsite or online for up to 30 parents/caregivers and
  • 1 x 1.5 hour implementation, planning and reflection meeting with leadership and educators.

Sessions are spaced to allow educators to trial strategies within everyday practice.

Additional 2 hour small-group observation and recording sessions available.

Additional 1.5 hour implementation, planning and reflection meeting with leadership and educators available.

The full program is $6,240.
