Description
Circle of Security Parenting® (COSP) is an evidence-informed, attachment-based program that helps caregivers understand children's emotional needs and behaviour, strengthening relationships and emotional regulation in early childhood.
The program supports caregivers to interpret children's behaviour through the lens of emotional needs and attachment, helping them recognise cues, respond to distress, and build the secure base relationships that underpin children's wellbeing and learning.
Topics include:
- understanding children's behaviour through the lens of emotional needs and attachment
- recognising children's cues and responding to distress
- providing a secure base and safe haven for children and
- building relationships that support emotional wellbeing, social competence and engagement in learning.
Delivered in small groups through a structured sequence of sessions
In early childhood education and care contexts, programs may be delivered in partnership with services, enabling families connected to the service to participate while strengthening collaboration between educators and caregivers.
Expected outcomes for this program are:
- improved caregiver understanding of children's emotional needs and behaviour
- improved caregiver ability to respond to children's distress and support emotional regulation
- stronger caregiver–child relationships that support emotional security and connection and
- strengthened collaboration between families and early childhood educators in supporting children's emotional development.
How this is delivered
This program is delivered in-person or online, in a group setting, consisting of 8 x 90-minute sessions (typically weekly within a school term), for up to 12 caregivers per group. Frequency can be increased or decreased depending on needs of the site.
Optional additional sessions are available: an educator reflection session (2 hours) focused on attachment-informed practice, and an educator implementation consultation/follow-up (2 hours) to support embedding strategies on-site.
Delivery is provided during standard business hours within metropolitan South Australia.
Cost
Core program (8 sessions): $2,400 per group of up to 12 caregivers.
Optional educator reflection session: $400 (2 hours).
Optional educator implementation consultation: $400 (2 hours).
Travel within 15 minutes of the practitioner's base is included beyond this, travel is charged at $200 per hour in 6-minute increments, by agreement with the service prior to delivery.
