Description
Supporting the Developing Child is a professional learning video series by Semann & Slattery, helping early childhood educators understand the connection between children's behaviour and learning. Grounded in decades of research and practice, the program equips educators with strategies to support emotional regulation, pro-social skills, and development, contributing to children's outcomes in the Social Competence domain of the AEDC.
Five one-hour pre-recorded modules are designed for whole staff teams over a twelve-week period, allowing educators to implement strategies and reflect with colleagues between sessions. Each module is supported by a Think Sheet. Services retain access for 12 months and receive a live implementation webinar.
The videos feature Anthony Semann alongside specialist child psychologist Isabella van Gelder.
Modules:
- Module 1 – The Theory of Managing Behaviours: Building a shared foundation for understanding behaviour.
- Module 2 – Supporting Pro-Social Skills: Fostering positive relationships and cooperative behaviour.
- Module 3 – Emotional Regulation: Supporting children's capacity to manage their emotions.
- Module 4 – Trauma-Informed Approaches: Recognising trauma's impact and responding with skill.
- Module 5 – Creating an Environment that Supports Success: Designing spaces and relationships that enable children to thrive.
Educators will:
- deepen understanding of how behaviour, emotional regulation and learning connect
- recognise behaviour as communication of developmental or emotional needs
- grow confidence in responding relationally and with developmental knowledge
- intentionally teach pro-social skills including turn-taking, cooperation and empathy
- understand how trauma, stress and environment shape behaviour and
- create environments and routines that support regulation and group participation.
How this is delivered
Supporting the Developing Child is delivered as 5 x 1-hour pre-recorded video modules, designed for whole staff teams to view together over a 12-week period. Educators watch a module, implement strategies in their rooms, and reflect with colleagues before progressing to the next.
Each module is accompanied by a Think Sheet summarising key ideas and supporting team reflection. Services retain access to all modules for 12 months.

At a time that suits the service within the 12 weeks, the team schedules a live implementation webinar with Semann & Slattery. This provides personalised support for educators to discuss their experiences applying strategies, raise questions specific to their context, and receive targeted guidance.
