The Little Sensory Explorers Program aims to holistically support preschoolers & those who support them in exploring & understanding their sensory system & how it impacts wellbeing and learning. Children require a solid foundation within their sensory systems to build upon other skills and systems, including motor skills & cognitive learning.

Our 8 week sensory program curated by our paediatric Senior Occupational Therapist is recommended to be delivered weekly on site by one of our OTs or Allied Health Assistants. Each module requires 45 minutes to implement & is designed to be run with a small group of 5-6 children. Each session will focus on a different sense, exploring the sense in a range of age appropriate playful activities. Areas explored include touch, taste, sight, smell, sound, proprioception, vestibular & interoception.

We offer an additional Parent or Educator 1 or 2 hour training session at the commencement & conclusion of the program to educate them on the program, the sensory system, strategies to support regulation in relation to sensory processing & how to include engagement in the senses in learning.

By the end of the program children, parents & educators will have an improved understanding of the 8 different senses & be able to foster sensory exploration & see how sensory processing preferences can be accommodated in the learning & home environment.

Expected outcomes are:

• Engagement & understanding of the senses & sensory system.
• Improved knowledge how the senses & sensory processing impact on availability for learning and play.
• How the senses can be included in learning to foster sensory exploration & how sensory processing preferences can be accommodated.
• Beginner level understanding of how different sensory stimuli can act as triggers or be utilised as preventative strategies for regulation or behaviours of concern.

Regular Sessions: Our program can be delivered in a group setting of up to 6 children per group, in 45 minute sessions, delivered in person. We recommend weekly sessions over a term, however, we will happily work to the requirements and needs of the service partner. Session can be delivered by our OTs, or Allied Health Assistant (as available).

Educator/Caregiver Workshops: Additional 2 sessions, implemented before and after the group sessions are to provide optional pre and post education and training to parents and/or educators as well as evaluation measures. The training can be delivered onsite or online, with parents and educators combined or separated. Outside of business hours may be able to be arranged. The workshop takes1-2 hours, and enables time for questions.

In person sessions travel:

Travel is charged based on time (mins) and km taken to get the clinician to the service partner and back to the office.
