E-bulletin 8 April 2026
Designed for service educational leaders, teachers and teams, this training explores how effective curriculum design is developed through collaborative team practices, drawing on shared thinking, observation, reflection and professional dialogue.
Training outcomes include a deeper understanding of inclusion and practical approaches to support the full participation of every child, informed by children’s learning, family perspectives and community contexts.
There are nine sessions to choose from between 30 April – 5 June 2026, with both online and in-person options available, including sessions in metropolitan Adelaide, Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier.

Relevant staff within partner services are also encouraged to access the full range of self-paced modules within the Preschool Toolkit on Plink to further enhance their educational leadership and practice.
Registrations will shortly open for staff to attend professional development sessions on vicarious trauma and wellbeing in early childhood settings.
Delivered by qualified practitioners, the sessions will help educators recognise and respond to trauma while strengthening workplace wellbeing.
Options for online and in person attendance are available, including across metropolitan and regional South Australia. Participants are only required to attend one session to complete the training.
This training is optional and separate from the mandatory trauma informed practice requirement.
Service leaders are encouraged to support their teams with this new professional development opportunity that will be relevant for leaders, teachers and educators in early childhood.
Designed to build protective practices, these sessions will help staff to better understand and respond to vicarious trauma in the workplace.
Registrations will shortly open for staff to attend one of ten free 4-hour sessions, including five in-person options across metropolitan and regional South Australia, such as Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier.

The next round of proposed National Child Safety policy changes is now open for consultation, giving the sector an opportunity to share feedback through a national online survey.
There are seven proposed areas focusing on:
- Supervision practices
- Increasing transparency for families
- Persons with management or control (PMC) fitness and propriety
- Suspension, supervision and training directions and related information sharing provisions
- Increased whistleblower protections
- Updating quality ratings for approved providers during/immediately following an investigation
- Safer fencing.
To support services in understanding the proposed changes, the OECD is hosting a webinar on Thursday, 16 April from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Register here.
The survey is open until 28 April 2026. Complete the survey here.
Applications for the Child Safety Grants close this Friday 10 April.
The grant application process has been designed to be easy to complete and flexible for responding to providers specific needs.
Long day care and non-Department for Education sessional preschool providers can apply for a one-off payment between $3,000 and $5,000 per service to help strengthen their existing safety practices across their services.
You can apply for this grant funding here.
All children from birth to 5 years old living in South Australia can access free child health and development checks, including age-appropriate screening activities by the Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) or an Office for Early Childhood Development (OECD) partner provider.
Families now have access to more appointment times in more locations, including areas with high demand and regional and remote communities.
We encourage our preschool partners to support families to book checks for their children aged 3 and 4 years. These free milestone checks are key to tracking growth, celebrating milestones and assisting in connecting children and families to any needed supports.
Checks can be delivered onsite at service locations if there is a suitable private space for health professionals to carry out the check.
This helps children and families feel comfortable in a familiar setting.
Booking is easy - visit the Free Child Health and Development Check webpage to learn more and see OECD partner providers.
