If you’ve had time away from the sector, coming back is easier than you think. Your qualifications don’t expire, and the skills and experience you bring are highly valued.

Whether you’re an educator or an early childhood teacher, there are some training courses and requirements you’ll need to complete before returning.

Returning as an educator

If you're returning to a certificate III or diploma-qualified role, your qualification stays current — there's no need to requalify.

Depending on how long you've been away, you may need to refresh your Working with Children Check and find out if any of your training needs updating or refreshing.

You may also need to complete some short training courses, including Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect (RRHAN-EC), National Child Safety Training and any other training your employer or role requires.

Returning to the sector or moving to South Australia as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)

Thinking about returning to early childhood teaching or moving to South Australia? Now is the time!

You'll need to check your registration status with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia - registration lapses if it hasn't been renewed, and you may need to demonstrate recent practice depending on how long you've been out. Your qualification itself remains valid.
