Trauma-informed Practice training and associated backfill

The OECD has developed a Trauma-informed Practice professional development package, to build the capability of the workforce to respond to the increasingly complex needs of children and families.

Partner Services must commit to ensuring all ECTs and educators working in the funded preschool program room/s and other staff in direct contact with families from these rooms, such as administration staff, complete at a minimum, Foundational Trauma-informed Practice training. The 2-part online Foundational Trauma-informed Practice training module is freely available via the plink online learning platform.

In the first year of partnering, Services can access a funding contribution of $45 per hour (for up to 2 hours per person) as a backfill contribution to support attendance at mandatory Trauma-informed Practice training for relevant staff.

Access to training and confirmation of attendance will be managed through the Preschool Boost program and Partnership Plan. Prior training may be recognised, depending on its timeframe and alignment with the scope of training available for Partner Services. Services seeking Recognition of Training (RoT) must request this at the time of submitting their Partnership Plan.

Eligibility

All educators working in the funded preschool room(s) and other staff in direct contact with families participating in the funded preschool program (such as administration staff), must complete Trauma-informed Practice training.

This backfill contribution is only payable in the first year of a Service’s partnership with the OECD. New staff hired by the Service must complete the training as part of their standard induction process.

Partner Services in their first 12 months of delivering Preschool Plus also have access to additional free coaching and implementation supports to build educator confidence and capability to embed trauma-informed strategies into practice.

Partnership plan inclusion

Applicable where a Service is a new Partner Service (first year of service delivery) and is seeking RoT.

Spending rules

Backfill for Trauma-informed Practice training can only be allocated toward backfill of relevant staff participation in training.

Program reporting

Backfill for Trauma-informed Practice training will need to be accounted for in the service-level annual financial acquittal.
